On May 4th you’ll be able to pick up this new 4K steelbook edition of Gladiator, which is being released to tie in with the film’s 20th anniversary. It looks like this will include the both cuts of the movie on 4K and Blu-ray discs, but unfortunately not the third disc of extras. That said, the new 4K transfer is a stunner, and the DTS:X soundtrack is biund to have the neighbours complaining.

Pre-orders are due to go live at Zavvi on Saturday March 7th, so ignore any ‘sold out’ notices before then.

They’ll be live around 5pm UK time for Red Carpet subscribers (though possibly earlier, so keep an eye on our Twitter feed, just in case…), and around 6pm for everyone else. Our Red Carpet links don’t work properly for some reason, so you may need to log in first, then click the link again. Once the Red Carpet period is up, the link will work fine.

  2. I’ve got off the merry go round it was fun while it lasted but its now getting boring with issuing another version that already has been released as a steelbook.

I’m happy with the 4k steelbook I bought a few years ago , if they decide to start giving extra product like posters or other collectibles, I may be tempted to buy repeated blu rays again and again.

To be honest, 4K is starting to be like the Emperor’s new clothes with the excuse to add £5-£10 on the price for something we’ve probably already bought. I had to replace my tv and player so I got 4K for both. I can’t imagine my Blu-Ray collection looking any better. My dvds are upscaled to a new lease of life as well. Steelbooks now are going to be reserved for new releases and, if Zavvi get their finger out, the rest of Agents of Shield and the last of the Netflix Marvel series.

  5. Richard McKay look what’s coming out on Steelbook.

  6. Whilst I love this film I definitely won’t be getting this!As there’s so many great films out there that have never had the Steelbook treatment why do Zavvi keep repeatedly releasing the same films?!

  7. Got the first 4K release, looks pretty good in my collection. I don’t buy re-releases. Besides, don’t think the artwork on this is any better!
