Stanley Kubrick’s dazzling, Academy Award -winning achievement is a compelling drama of man vs. machine, a stunning meld of music and motion. Kubrick (who co-wrote the screenplay with Arthur C. Clarke) first visits our prehistoric ape-ancestry past, then leaps millenia (via one of the most mind-blowing jump cuts ever) into colonized space, and untimately whisks astronaut Bowman (Keir Dullea) into uncharted space, perhaps even into immorality. “Open the pod bay doors, HAL.” Let an awesome journey unlike any other begin.

Features:

  • Commentary by Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood, Channel Four Documentary; 2001: The Making of a Myth
  • 4 Insightful Featurettes; Standing on the shoulders of Kubrick: The Legacy of 2001
  • Vision of a Future Passed: The Phophecy of 2001
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey – A Look Behind the Future
  • What Is Out There?
  • 2001: FX and Early Conceptual Artwork
  • Look: Stanley Kubrick! Audio-Only Bonus: 1966 Kubrick Interview Conducted by Jeremy Bernstein
  • Theatrical Trailer

  1. Can’t wait to see how much it is as the regular release is £35 on amazon.

Awesome, btw typo in page says released 4 August.

  3. Steelbook blu Ray news, zavvi seems to be focused on overpriced 4k steelbooks, re issues, is this going to be the norm from now on

    • The releases are up to the studios, not the retailers.

As for prices that depends on how much the studio charge the retailers. Zavvi’s price for the steelbook is the same as Amazon’s price for the non-steelbook 4K

Either way, this isn’t an exclusive, so it’ll be worth seeing what the others charge once they list it

    • Steelbook Blu Ray News thank you for your reply, do you think zavvi will release any steelbooks such as Splash, spaceballs, fluke, gotcha, I love my 80s films, my all time favourite being Howard The Duck.. ?

    • I do know they they’re in constant discussion with studios about releases that they would like to see, and they do pass on feedback from collectors, but ultimately the decision is with the studio.

They may decide that sales won’t be high enough to do a release, or hold back till a movie’s anniversary.

  4. Marc Jones Marc Jones says:

Takes the piss. £35 is ridiculous.

  5. Pre ordered this straight away even though I think its overpriced, should be £29.99 max. Will see what HMV sells it at and cancel if I need to but this will sellout fast everywhere I’m guessing.

  6. Thought it was brilliant first time I saw it, but tried to watch again a few years later and…..bloody hell it’s so boring!
