Episode 5 of “The Nasty Cast: A Video Nasties Podcast” is now live

Welcome back to The Nasty Cast.

In the early 1980s a battle began over the nation’s viewing. The home video market was booming, and the unsatiable demand was met by a sudden influx of cheap, often explicit and violent films.

In Episode 5 we’re switching to a monthly schedule, as we start to take an indepth look at the Video Nasties themselves, as well as some other controversial films that have made the headlines over the years.

To kick things off, we’re starting off with perhaps one of the most notorious – Cannibal Holocaust.

The film is as groundbreaking as it is infamous, featuring perhaps the first use of the ‘found footage’ gimmick, extreme fake gore, and even more extreme real animal cruelty.

Does the film still stand up today, does the director’s message and intent get lost among the blood and guts, and does it deserve its reputation?

You can listen now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or your podcatcher of choice.
