When it was first announced, the first rebooted Planet of The Apes movie, Rise, was met with a lot of scepticism, but it managed to defy expectations, turning out to be a solid sci-fi drama. The second movie, Dawn, was even better, and now the third in the series, War For The Planet of The Apes, is picking up some VERY positive reviews.

As usual with Fox releases, HMV have bagged to the UK exclusive, which will include the movie on 4K, 2D and 3D Blu-ray, so all your bases are covered.

Final artwork and release date are still TBC, but pre-orders are live right now.

    Nick, HMV for this one!!

  2. Anything stateside?

  3. This is why I got into steelbooks in the first place. You can keep your Zavvi one disc re-release money grabs.

I love that HMV are going for 3D, 2D and 4K in the Steels, they feel so much more complete. Wish Zavvi would catch-up (and charge more reasonably prices for 4K Steels)!

They’ve done the same with Spider-Man Homecoming, only it being a 4-disc similar to the standard 2D/3D trade edition, this is how HMV will do them in years to come as it’s becoming a thing for 4K BD to have a major impact.

  5. Have to say HMV are killing it at the minute. That’s another one preordered. 4K, 3D and regular all in the one package is amazing value at £24.99. Zavvi charging over £30 with 4K only is too much.

I second that! But Zavvi have always been over priced unfortunately. And their trick of increasing prices 10% before offering a 10% sale fools no one ( hopefully ), plus their completely incompetent customer service staff when something goes wrong are a nightmare. I always hope its ging to be a HMV, Amazon or Zoom release, not Zavvi for those reasons, but unfortunately Zavvi bring out most of the exclusives for steel collectors..

The 4k + 3D + 2D steels are great if the price is right, although if its a choice between a 3D+2D release, and 4K+2D, I will go for the 4K, as the format presumably will have a longer run than standard Blu-ray or DVD, saying that, I am still unsure why after all this time, DVD has not been phased out completely by now and standard blue ray prices lowered to DVD prices?? It surely has nothing to do with yield anymore, and the price of manufacturing blu-rays has become a lot faster and cheaper since their release, but prices stay the same forcing the new 4K format to be priced even higher.

The title of this page says its a trilogy closer, but I thought plans for a 4th film are already under way, and that the director has already hinted that it may extend further on to a 5th or even 6th film?

It’s been mentioned before by the filmmakers during the film’s production, but Andy Serkis, in an interview on the latest Empire Podcast, says that he and the director consider the film to be the last in a trilogy for this part bit of the story.

Obviously, Fox will want to keep going, and no doubt everyone is currently planning out more films to tell the next ‘chapter’.
